Chief Technology Officer for Research Automation

About the Role
Iliad is forming a team to build infrastructure to automate foundational alignment research. As our CTO, you’ll own the vision and execution of that effort: building and managing a team of software engineers, setting the technical direction, and ensuring that Iliad and its affiliated organizations can work at a scale and speed that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. The centerpiece of this work will be developing the Textbook from the Future.
What We’re Looking For
- Deep knowledge of AI alignment research

About the Role
As Curriculum Developer and Technical Researcher, you will:
- Contribute to developing the Iliad curriculum for the Intensive and the Textbook from the Future program—a comprehensive alignment textbook and research automation resource
- Conduct original research in foundational AI alignment
- Help manage and mentor research fellows
- Contribute to teaching during Iliad Intensives
What We’re Looking For
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field
- Strong technical background in mathematics and/or foundational or prosaic AI alignment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to make technically rigorous material accessible
- Willingness and ability to spend time in the Bay Area or London during programs

Fellowship Director

About the Role
As Fellowship Director, you’ll oversee the Iliad Fellowship end-to-end. This includes:
- Owning the logistics of the fellowship—from application and selection to alumni follow-up
- Serving as research manager to the fellows, supporting their research directions, progress, and development throughout the program
- Coordinating and managing other members of the fellowship team
- Maintaining a high bar for fellow experience and program quality, and continuously improving both
- Acting as the main point of contact between fellows, Iliad leadership, and external collaborators
What We’re Looking For
- Significant experience in program management, operations, or a related leadership role
- Research background in AI alignment, math, or physical sciences
- Proven ability to manage and develop people, including researchers or technical staff
- Excellent organizational skills and comfort with end-to-end operational ownership

Operations Generalist

About the Role
As Operations Generalist, you’ll be responsible for providing operations support to Iliad’s programs, including:
- Managing internal and external communications
- Coordinating program logistics including applications, participants, onboarding, vendor relationships, and onsite operations
- Improving and automating operational processes and maintaining internal documentation
- Supporting outreach efforts and coordinating with researchers, program participants, and other stakeholders
What We’re Looking For
- 1–2 years of experience in an operations, coordination, or admin role (internships and academic experience welcome)
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple priorities at once
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Comfortable working with tools like Google Workspace, Notion, Airtable; comfort using AI assistants like Claude for drafting and workflows
- Proactive and comfortable operating with ambiguity in a fast-moving environment
- Comfort working with distributed teams and working remotely
- Being based in/willing to relocate to Berkeley, CA or London, UK is strongly preferred. Ability and willingness to travel frequently to events in the US and UK is required.
- Genuine interest in AI alignment is a strong plus, but not required

Outreach Specialist

About the Role
As Outreach Specialist, you’ll be responsible for building and managing relationships with researchers across mathematics, physics, computer science, and the broader hard sciences—funneling talented people into Iliad’s fellowship and research incubation programs. This is a field-building role combining physical and online outreach:
- Conducting targeted outreach to researchers across academia and industry through conferences, university visits, and online channels
- Building and managing a portfolio of relationships with researchers, faculty, and community members
- Developing a communications strategy to expand the funnel for Iliad’s fellowship and research incubation programs
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in outreach, community building, recruiting, or a related field
- Strong interpersonal skills and interest in building relationships with researchers
- Familiarity with academic research communities—ideally in math, physics, CS, or adjacent sciences

Research Program and Fundraising Coordinator

About the Role
As Research Program and Fundraising Coordinator, you will:
- Manage relationships with Iliad’s incubated research organizations, serving as their main point of contact and ensuring they have the support they need to move their work forward
- Write grant applications for Iliad and its incubated research orgs, and manage relationships with funders to build and maintain a healthy funding pipeline
- Provide operational support to unblock incubated organizations
What We’re Looking For
- Experience producing high-quality written work under tight deadlines
- Experience with grant writing is preferred
- Deep knowledge of the AI safety ecosystem—understanding of key theories, organizations, researchers, and funders
- Some technical understanding of AI and alignment research sufficient to write credibly about the work
- Comfortable with relationship management and stakeholder communications
- Ability to manage multiple grants and relationships simultaneously

About the Role
As a Software Engineer at Iliad, you’ll spend the majority of your time building and maintaining the systems that power our research automation efforts—developing tools and pipelines that help researchers work faster and at greater scale. The rest of your time will be split between automating internal operational workflows across the Iliad org and maintaining and improving our website.
This is a generalist role in a small, growing engineering team. You’ll have real ownership over what you build and variety in the problems you work on.

- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
