About Iliad
Iliad is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing foundational AI alignment research. We run the Iliad Intensive, the Iliad Fellowship, and a range of conferences that bring together researchers working on the hardest problems in AI safety. We also incubate research organizations and an academic journal, and have an internal research team. We're a small and quickly growing team.
About the Role
In this role, you help the Director of Education, Leon Lang, in his day-to-day operations as he builds and manages a team of teachers, education platform developers, and writers for the Iliad Intensive. The quickly growing course is already delivered to more than 40 students per month, with around 15 rotating teachers per iteration, leading to significant management work. Your responsibilities will include:
Help make Leon’s work-related digital infrastructure more efficient and automated as he’s managing a larger set of responsibilities
Sit in on Leon’s management calls, keep agendas tight and focused on action items, and ensure effective note-taking
Build up management processes, including effective delegation of tasks and responsibilities, goal-setting, and accountability and learning processes
Help create processes for interviewing, hiring, and developing people in the education team
Pick up slack when there are shortages elsewhere in the team or across Iliad
Because this role works exceptionally closely with the Director of Education, we start with a mutual-fit trial.
As Iliad is quickly growing, your role may adapt to changing needs of our program and Iliad as a whole.
What We’re Looking For
At a minimum, we are looking for someone with:
Strong personal organization: you keep your own systems in order and look for ways to automate repetitive work
High reliability: what you own gets done, without reminders
Clear and concise writing for notes, agendas, and process documentation others can act on
Proactivity: you notice what's missing and fix it before being asked
Our ideal candidate also comes with:
Prior experience in operations, executive assistance, or management support
Experience designing or running hiring or other people processes
Familiarity with the AI safety community
AI is a fast-moving field that changes the nature of our work constantly, and we ultimately care about impact rather than any particular project or approach. As such, we also value:
A broadly general skillset that can be applied to many tasks
Comfort working in a fast-moving organization where priorities and roles will change
Curiosity and ability to use AI to augment, improve, and automate various aspects of your own work
We encourage you to apply even if you do not hit every criterion!
Benefits
Our benefits include:
Time Off: 25 days paid vacation annually
Flexible Working Hours
Team Retreats: We have occasional in-person team retreats
